Save the date for the fifth-annual Day of the Dozers on September 30th, 2017! This unique family-friendly event was created to raise money for the Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota. As the main attraction, children get to sit in the cabs of giant bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, and skid steers and run the equipment with a licensed operator. A large culvert maze, variety of games, safety demos, prize giveaways, equipment simulators, and food round out the event. This year will include more equipment, gate entries, vendors, and activities than ever before! Attendees can also purchase a $1 raffle ticket for a chance to win construction toys. Gopher State One Call (GSOC), a Minnesota Common Ground Alliance (MNCGA) participant, is proud to be a key sponsor of this year’s event.

Background on Day of the Dozers

David Harn, a Caterpillar manager, and his wife Evelyn founded the event. Their son had kidney problems as a child, and the couple was grateful that they were able to leave the hospital with a healthy child. They believed it was important to generate funds to support the Children’s Hospital to help other parents experience that same joy. The Harns planned the event in six weeks and partnered up with ERX Motor Park, volunteers, and several sponsors to make the event happen. When the couple moved out of state after the first Day of the Dozers, they turned to the Minnesota Utility Contractor’s Association (MUCA) to take on the responsibility of planning and hosting future events. The first event raised over $5,000 for Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota, and this amount has grown considerably each year.

Help us reach MUCA’s goal of raising $40,000 at this year’s event! Last year, we raised over $36,000 for the Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota. GSOC strives to promote the damage prevention message to Minnesotans of all ages. We believe that exposing younger generations to the importance of protecting our state’s underground infrastructure will help to prevent future utility damages. Bring your whole family along to this year’s Day of the Dozers for a day of safe excavating fun!
